VOLUNTEER WITH REACH

Our volunteers serve as positive literacy role models for adults and youth.

BOOKSTORE Volunteers

LITERACY Volunteers

Each year, REACH Literacy gives away thousands of engaging, high-quality books to schools and non-profits across the Sioux Empire. Our REACH a TEACHER Grants help Elementary and Middle School teachers build their classroom libraries.

REACH a READER bookstore needs volunteers to help with sales, customers, displays, book inventory, checking in donations, and general store upkeep. Volunteers must be able to lift 10 pounds, be able to learn a simple cash register system, answer phones, make change, and greet and help customers.

We are currently looking for volunteers to work in our bookstore who can commit to at least, one, 3-hour shift a week, on a regular basis.

If you are interested, please fill out the application below.

Dedicated volunteers are essential to helping us fulfill our mission to provide literacy instruction and experiences for adult and youth readers. We have opportunities for volunteers to work with both individuals and small groups.

Our Workplace English program is designed for adults who are learning to communicate in English. Students may speak or understand basic English but desire to increase their confidence for personal or employment-related reasons. We are in need of compassionate individuals to give 1.5 - 3 hours weekly to help facilitate small group discussions and interact with participants.

Our BEE a Reader program pairs volunteers via Zoom with emerging second-grade readers from several Sioux Falls area classrooms. These consistent, positive interactions aim to help strengthen student confidence in their reading abilities. Volunteers must be able to commit to meeting for approximately 45 minutes weekly during the school day.

BEE a Reader meets from February through April.

Literacy program volunteers must be:

  • dependable and prompt

  • non-discriminatory and inclusive

  • flexible and friendlypatient and encouraging

  • past educational background is helpful but not required.
