Volunteer with Reach Literacy

Our volunteers serve as positive literacy role models for adults and youth.

Bookstore Volunteers

Classroom Assistants

Each year, Reach Literacy gives away thousands of engaging, high-quality books to schools and non-profits across the Sioux Empire. Our Building Classroom Libraries event helps teachers refresh and build their classroom libraries.

Our Reach Literacy Bookstore needs volunteers to help with sales, customers, displays, book inventory, checking in donations, and general store upkeep. Volunteers must be able to lift 10 pounds, be able to learn a simple cash register system, answer phones, make change, and greet and help customers.

We are currently looking for volunteers to work in our bookstore who can commit to at least, one, 3-hour shift a week, on a regular basis.

In our adult English program, we strive to create a welcoming and supportive learning environment where every student can grow and thrive.

Classroom Assistants work alongside teachers during English classes and play a vital role in supporting adult learning. Responsibilities may including providing one-on-one or small group assistance, helping with classroom activities, and handing out class materials. By building relationships and offering encouragement, Classroom Assistants help create a positive and inclusive classroom experience. This role must commit to serving one hour per week.

Classroom Assistants who are interested in serving as Substitute Teachers may indicate this on their application. Substitute Teachers step in when a teacher is unavailable, using prepared lessons and class materials to keep classes running smoothly. Prior teaching experience is required for substitute teaching opportunities.

All Classroom Assistants must be:

  • dependable and prompt

  • non-discriminatory and inclusive

  • flexible and friendly, patient and encouraging

Application will open soon!
