Meet Maggie, Our Summer Intern!

Hello everyone!

My name is Maggie, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as the newest addition to REACH Literacy as their summer intern.

Starting just last week, I am off to a running start with various projects, helping out around the bookstore, and gearing up to create some exciting new social media content. It has been an incredible first few days, and to help you get to know me better, I participated in a fun Q&A session. Here are a few highlights:

Where are you from?

I was born in Arizona and spent the early years of my childhood there. Midway through elementary school, my family moved to Sioux Falls, where I completed high school and now visit during the summers.

Where do you go to school?

Funny question, actually. I go to school in Finland at LUT University where I study Industrial Engineering and Management, made some amazing friends, and have had some of the most memorable experiences of my life!

What are you looking forward to this summer?

I am looking forward to spending the summer with friends and family and working at REACH Literacy! It's going to be a fantastic blend of personal time, professional growth, and a break from my studies.

Where is your favorite place to visit?

I love to visit Alaska to see family and go camping. The mountains, fresh air, and adventures make it my perfect getaway. Alaska is also one of my favorite places to do photography because of the beautiful landscapes and abundant wildlife.

If you could be any fictional character, who would it be?

Honestly, I would be Bill Weasley from the Harry Potter series. The Weasley’s were such an amazing, supportive, and loving family, and I would love to live in their house, The Burrow.

What book could you reread over and over again?

"The Princess Bride" is both my favorite book and movie. It's a timeless story with unforgettable characters that make me forget about the real world around me.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

My theme song would be "Kilby Girl" by The Backseat Lovers. Its upbeat and catchy tune perfectly matches my outlook on life and embodies me as a person.

If you had a time machine, what year would you go to?

Either the 1960s to drive a super cool classic car and wear some funky clothes, or the 1900s to live out my Sherlock Holmes dreams.

Name 3 people you would invite to your dream dinner party?

First off, choosing just three people is not nearly enough—what's a dinner party with only four people? But my choices would be Lin-Manuel Miranda, Princess Diana, and David Attenborough. It would be one interesting evening, that's for sure.

Why did you choose REACH Literacy for your summer internship?

I chose REACH Literacy because I am passionate about promoting literacy and empowering individuals through education. REACH Literacy's mission aligns perfectly with my values, and I am eager to contribute to and learn from this amazing organization.

That’s just a little bit about me and my backstory. I can’t wait to get the ball rolling here at REACH Literacy. Stay tuned for more updates and exciting projects throughout the summer!
